Frequently Asked Questions
Every principal employer employing 20 or more contract workers at any time, and every contractor employing 20 or more workers, must register/obtain a license under the CLRA Act.
Form I is the registration certificate obtained by the Principal Employer from the registering officer. Form IV is the license obtained by the Contractor from the licensing officer. Both are mandatory before deploying contract workers.
Working without a license is a punishable offense under Section 23 of the CLRA Act β€” imprisonment up to 3 months, a fine of β‚Ή1,000, or both. The principal employer is also liable if they knowingly engaged an unlicensed contractor.
The CLRA license specifies the establishment and nature of work. Separate licenses may be required for different states or significantly different establishments. We advise on a case-by-case basis.
